The tour takes you to Negara to see traditional music of jegog. This bamboo gamelan, with deep resonating tones originally comes from Negara, west Bali. The instruments of jegog are made of giant bamboos which have maximum length of 3m, diameter of 18cm and thickness about 2cm.Jegog was long not played during Dutch colonial time and now this music played again led by Mr. Suwentra. ★ Played only on Thursday.  |

Jegog is called "Gamelan of bamboo" come down to only Negara Area.It is the ensemble performance that one team consists of 14 Jegog.The biggest bamboo is 3m in length, a diameter of 18cm, a thickness 3cm!The sound of bamboo gives off deepest low tone which human ear can hear. Sound of bamboo echo to stage, tree, and human, and being expresses fantastic stage space.The bamboo percussion instrument of four musical scales is only this Jegog in the world. The musical scale means the direction of the north, south, east and west, and God dwells in each direct, and it is said that there is Siva in the center. It's very rare music that Bali Hinduism was embodied for the structure of the Jegog and sound of bamboo. |

■ Sound fighting - Mubarun -
"The Fight of sound" that one another characteristic is called Mubarun of Jegog. It is two Jegog groups are fighting by performance. First one group begin performance, and when warmed up,another group begin performance. This is not the easy thing "which a sound hangs","destroy performance of partner" will be correct. And the first group stopped performance earlier, then secound group finished with lassitude. The Jegog player just like boxer continu beating the sandbag. His face like runner's hight to get ecstasy state.Bali known as trance, but it is big scale as group trans. Musician continues playing even if consciousness blown off, it's really mysterious. |
